We recommend splined shafting as it is a simple and safe method of attaching steering components. If phasing needs to be slightly adjusted because of a tight spot, you can easily index or rotate a splined shaft in small increments. OUR SPLINED SHAFTS ARE ALL MADE WITH 3/4-36 SPLINE. The drawback to Double D shafting is that the phasing is fixed. However, using Double D shafting is preferred over welding and/or pinning due to serious potential problems with those methods. Welding is a permanent connection which can create side-to-side play problems. It also should only be done by certified welders since hairline cracks that are not visible can easily occur. Overheating the bearing and bearing seal which causes premature failure often is associated with welding. Pinning requires holes be drilled in the shafting causing a weakening of the shaft. Vibrations can cause a pin to become loose or back out of the hole so it is necessary to use a safety back up such as a hose clamp or safety wire in conjunction with the pin. Since we offer individual components to fit virtually any installation, we “custom fit” your steering shaft and joints to your vehicle. Components can be switched from one location to another to give you the best setup possible. We offer splined shafts in various lengths in steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. We offer 3/4” DD shafting in steel and stainless steel. U-joints are locked onto the shafts using a proven method of set screws and lock nuts.
